The Americans have earned applause from all over the world by electing the first African-American as their president on Nov 4, 2008 in a historic victory for Barack Obama. Obama secured overwhelming majority of the electoral votes as well as the popular votes after 21-month gruelling election campaign.

The Americans proved it beyond doubt that they still cherish the values of their founding fathers who conceived and fought for American values by seeking separation from the British rule and sacrificing the lives and property of hundreds of thousands of Americans during the War of Independence.

Thomas Jafferson, one of the founding fathers and presidents of the United States, once remarked: 'one man's courage is a majority.' Barack Obama has proved him right. Earlier, it was Dr Martin Luther King who fought for civil rights for black Americans and won in 1965. The journey spread over half-a-century ultimately led to its climax on Nov 4, 2008.

A new golden chapter in the American history has begun. Barack Obama is on his way to become the president of the most powerful nation in the world - the United States of American.

Obama spoke of hope and change. Nations change only when they have hope. Hope is the grease that oils the wheels of change. Change is the most difficult of all human endeavours for the simple reason that it is the people, the greatest resource, that is to change itself. Nothing is ever achieved without untiring human effort - a burning desire to change the status quo and confront the challenges with confidence, courage and conviction. Believing in your goal, believing in yourself and believing in your leader imbibes in you the conviction.

Conviction is like the locomotive engine that drives the whole train occupied by all sorts of people. It is the job of the locomotive driver to take the people to their destination safely.

Barack Obama is the man who is endowed with the driving force of confidence, courage and conviction. He believes in himself and he believes in all Americans to bring Change, long over-due in the American society.

Barack Obama is the first American president who received 87% of the online voters before his election in the poll on voteforpresident.org and 85% after the election in the survey by Roy Morgan across the globe. It reflects not only the personal acceptance of Mr Obama but also the acceptance of the Americans world over.

It should be the task of the American government to conceive and achieve what is needed by the Americans so that the government policies and the Americans' perceptions are tuned in a brilliant composition.

A super power is expected to be super in all ways and manners for the world around it. It should not be just the military power but also the prowess to change the world that is expected from a super power. It is also the need of the hour to resolve conflicts and remove pricks and pains of the fellow human beings wherever located who also belong to the same God in whom the Americans have their faith.

Today, the world is confronted with a multitude of issues aggravated with the global financial crises. The US needs to step in to help other nations survive and progress and live in an environment of true democracy, rule of law and social justice. America has the power; economic, political and military to force foreign governments to adhere to the freedom, independence, civil liberties, democracy, rule of law, social justice and co-existence.

America needs to refrain from supporting those governments who are dictatorial under the facade of democracy, who have subjugated judiciary, parliament and the media and used the state force to silence their opponents and dissidents. America needs to ensure that its support and assistance to other countries are used for the purpose it is meant for and the governments are made accountable for the funds received and spent. America needs to help in eliminating corruption, nepotism, maladministration, rigging of elections, misuse of state force and authority in countries funded by it.

There can never be sustainable peace anywhere in the world when the people's rights and freedom are usurped, when people are discriminated against, when people are unable to get their due on their own merits rather than contacts, and when the state resources are mismanaged and misused for personal gains by those in power to the detriment of the people at large. Those who evade taxes, indulge in smuggling, commit crimes, take kick-backs, and go scot-free are symbols of a decadent society.
